Thanks to new technology, we are able to scan the fronts and backs of your original checks into our computer system and permanently store them. The scanned image becomes a permanent document, which can be reproduced at any time. It is a vast improvement over the traditional microfilm used to store records.
How does Sterling CheckingPlus benefit me as a customer?
Sterling CheckingPlus provides you with an array of benefits:
- Easier statement reconciliation.
Your checks are provided presorted in numerical order. Beneath each check, clearly printed, will be the date the item was processed, the check number, and the amount of the check. These features make balancing your checkbook faster and easier than ever before.
- A ready-made filing system for you.
Statements and checks are printed on paper that is already hole punched and ready to store in a three ring binder, which we can provide for you. Think about the advantages of having your statements and cancelled checks all together in one place and readily available for reference. No more overstuffed drawers, bulky envelopes or overflowing shoeboxes!
- Income tax preparation is easier. Imagine the convenience of having all your checking account records for the year organized in a binder. This will certainly be a helpful feature for you and/or your tax preparer.
- When you need information, or copies of the fronts or backs of any checks we have processed, they can be made available almost immediately. Copies can be picked up, faxed, or mailed the same day (Monday through Friday).
- View Checks Online. Customers using Sterling Internet Banking will be able to view as well as print both the fronts and backs of their checks as soon as they are posted.
- CD-ROM Capabilities. We can also furnish your returned checks on CD-ROM, so you could have a greatly enhanced storage and retrieval system with downloadable data available right at your desktop PC.
How much does this service cost?
There is no charge for Sterling CheckingPlus. This is a free service for all checking customers.
How does the statement differ from traditional account statements?
You no longer have to sort your own checks. When monthly statements are prepared, our system gathers all of your checks for the month, organizes them by check number, and neatly prints them out on 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper for easy storage in a 3-ring binder. These check printouts are included with your statement instead of the original checks.

Does this mean that I won't get my checks back?
You get your checks back with your monthly statement in a different form. With Sterling CheckingPlus, your monthly statement provides a method that is easier to manage, organize and reconcile.
How long will the bank store the imaged checks?
We will have a record of every item that is processed through our system. Checks are accessible and we can provide items dating back two years almost instantly should you need them. All items are stored on optical disk for 7 years.
What if I need to prove I paid for something?
No problem. Imaged checks are accepted by the IRS and in courts of law. If you need an image of the front or back of any item, just come in or call us. We can even enlarge the imaged item for ease of signature and endorsement verification. In fact, due to quality and clarity, an imaged check is often preferred over microfilm copies for proof of payment.
